New videos support families visiting RDHM
A great new series of videos have been developed to help families every step of the way while they’re visiting RDHM for treatment.
The fear of the unknown can cause anxiety for families when their child has an upcoming appointment at the dental hospital.
To help ease that stress, we’re proud to share our new ‘Specialist Children’s Dentistry at RDHM’ videos.
Designed for families attending the Specialist Children’s Clinic and Day Surgery Unit (DSU), the videos aim to better prepare parents and children for their upcoming appointments and treatment.
Narrated from the point of view of either parent or child, the videos guide viewers through each stage of the visit, helping families understand what to expect before arriving at RDHM.
The videos feature practical tips to help calm nerves, build confidence, and make the process less overwhelming. It’s all about arming patients with knowledge to make their experience less stressful and improving the overall patient experience.
The new videos join the ‘Preparation for Day Surgery’ videos that were released earlier this year and have already made a positive impact on patients.
Head of Paediatric Dentistry, Daniel Andreasen-Cocker, said the videos help to support holistic patient care.
“We have had some great spontaneous and unsolicited feedback already for the DSU videos from parents and children, saying they felt much more prepared and understood what was happening,” said Dan.
“And a couple of kids thought I was a movie star,” Dan joked.
The video project was spearheaded by Operational Improvement Lead, Shiromi Arora, in collaboration with staff, families, and the videographer to bring this engaging oral health education initiative to life.
“We hope these videos will benefit both families and staff by helping parents and children better understand what to expect before their visit,” said Shiromi.
“When families feel more informed, it can help reduce anxiety and create a calmer, more positive experience for everyone involved. We encourage staff to direct patients and families to the website and videos ahead of their appointment - it’s a simple but powerful way to ease uncertainty and set families up for success.”
Four videos are now available on the RDHM website, and the links will also be provided to patients and their parents or carers ahead of their appointments.
